Flareon Fursuit

... Actually, I made this a year ago, for Otakon 05, but Cosplay.com is a pain in the tail to navigate, and I can't ever seem to find out where my photo gallery is on that stupid thing. So I'm putting a pic of my costume here instead. Glee.

'Tis Flareon from Pokemon. My first evah fursuit I made without my sis's help. (I mean, she helped me with advice and stuff, but didn't actually do any of the work on it.) My fave part was all the fun furry fiery fabrics, hehe. Except that the bits of fluff got everywhere. My sis made a Vaporeon and a Jolteon costume so we could go as a group. My mom wore the Jolteon.

Yes, it was hot in that costume. But I had a computer fan in the head, right in the snout area. It was connected to a battery pack that I wore around my neck, under the fire collar. The fan worked wonders, and my face wasn't ever too hot. ... ... Except when the fan broke... Minutes before we were supposed to go onstage at the Masquerade. Oh. Em. Gee. I put on the head for 10 seconds, and it got so hot in it that my glasses got all foggy and I couldn't see where I was going. I practically stumbled offstage. Yeesh.

Vision also wasn't that stellar. I could see out of the eyes, which was a dark plastic. So it was like looking out of sunglasses. And I had no forward vision, I could only see a little bit from the sides. So as I walked, I was kinda' swinging my head side to side, to see out of the sideways oriented eyes.

My tail was HEAVY. It was made of foam and stuffing, and probably weighed about 10 pounds. It was placed awkwardly on my back, and was supported mostly by a belt that went across my chest on the inside. So my breathing was a tad restricted, plus my back was hurting by the end of the day. And I couldn't sit normally in the chairs, because my tail was as thick as a seat is deep. So I could only sit in sideways chairs. I think I hit a lot of people with that tail.

But it was fun. People loved our Eevee trio, though some of them pestered us, asking where Espeon and Umbreon were. My response was that we were from the original Red/Blue games. We couldn't take more than a few steps without being swamped with people wanting photos. Hehe. And some people wanted hugs or wanted to pet us. Especially me, since my fabric was the fluffiest. We got Best in Show in the Novice category for the Hall Costume Contest.
