According to the Oxford dictionary, "In the singular, ALUMNUS nearly always means a male, but the plural ALUMNI usually refers to graduates or former students of either sex." So it's not quite incorrect. ;) Besides, on all the t-shirts and all the merchandise in my school's bookstore, it says SCAD alumni, not alumnus. So I just went with what the school uses.

Hmm...I would have thought that the female version would have been alumna. (Which could get confusing, because the -a ending is also neuter plural. *Language'd*) But going with the Latin, I don't think that would have worked, because I don't remember many--or any, really--Latin nouns that could change gender.

So, I suppose I'll trust your judgment.
